If the majority of fish in a stream are stacked in 60 degree water at a "Thermo," I don't think it is real sporting to fish them out of that refuge point. But that is just me speaking.

i nymph all the time with 8x its not real abrasion resistant but it works good , the fish can't see your line in the fast runs when u use it either and if u want to switch to size 32 midges its a breeze

I fish the LLH about 3-4 times per year (not a lot). This past Sunday I caught 7 in about an hour and a half using 6x, on Al's Rats, crane flies and sunken ants. This was 4 - 5:30 PM, sunny and hot with one eye on my 10 year old son and the other on my buddy's kid. Not exactly ideal conditions.
If someone is not catching in the Heritage stretch and they're using 6x (or at the smallest 7x), tippet is not the problem.
Just sayin'...

Consider other variables: observation, approach, presentation, and tippet length.
An observant angler fishing the LLH (or anywhere the trout are visible) can deduce what the fish are feeding on, at least with some degree of accuracy. That is an advantage of sight fishing so use it when you can.
Wear subdued colors or camo. Every time I go there I see guys standing right over top of the fish they are trying to catch. :-? I noticed the trout in the LLH Heritage section to not stop feeding when someone approached, but they do get more selective.
Present the fly drag free. If that doesn't work try twitching it to get a response. Each trout may prefer a different fly and/or presentation. Be flexible. In the past, I've caught some nice rainbows by twitching sucker spawn UPSTREAM! :-o
The tippet length should be 3 feet plus. This is to prevent drag and allow for more natural movement. On general longer tippet is softer.
This stuff is all second nature to most of us, but inexperienced anglers must think of these things constantly until they become ingrained. It doesn't hurt to review them periodically.

Damn Flyswatter. You must be an awesome fly fisherman. You seem like you've got it all down pat. I wish I had your exact perspective on fly fishing. Then maybe I could be as judgemental towards others as you....

Flyswatter's post was informative and enjoyable IMO. As a beginner, I'd be grateful for his candid approach to sharing important tips and info. And he's absolutely right. Light tippets are totally unnecessary in most situations. IMO, it's one of the biggest misconceptions that FFers tend to make.

Don't look at me, I use Danville's spider thread for tippet...I find that the 30 denier count really gives me smooth, drag free drifts and lets me extend the fight for maximum pleasure.
The fish don't seem to mind, either. At the end, its like they just flop into my hand excited to see who so effortlessly played them, and when I'm done, they always want to hang around in the eddies beneath my feet to see me bring in their buds.

"i nymph all the time with 8x" WOW and i sometimes wonder why people arent catching more/larger fish...REALLY dude there is absolutely NO earthly need to even buy 8x let alone nymph with it...that is just wow...

Finny......you have you ever been around the Little Lehigh? If not if you'd like fish it I'd glady show you around if you promise to never go below 6x.
Btw for those that were wondering we got bored at the fly shop one day and found out that you can thread 0x orvis super strong through a size 24 orvis trico!
Next year I'm going to tape myself catching a fish in the Heritage section with a size 24 trico and 0x
