I fish the New Jersey Waters religously (South Branch, Musky, Pequest, etc.) I live right on the NJ/PA border, so I have always thought I should get a PA licsence and try some new waters. I went to the Little Lehigh today on my first attempt in Pa.

Had a great afternoon. Hooked 14 rainbows/browns. I guess I will be back soon!
 
I would appreciate any input anyone can give me on other nice streams within an hour of Easton/Phillipsburg.

Welcome to the PAFF forums. By all means, take some time to look through the many years of discussion on this site as there is a great deal of info on streams around the state. If you haven't already done so, check out the link "Pennsylvania Trout Streams" in the upper right of this page for more info.

With regards to your report, please note that we ask for the stream, county, and date fished here in Stream Reports forum as others have done. As well as some basic info on what you saw: water conditions, temps, and hatches are especially useful info. If you care to, what flies worked or didn't work is helpful as well. Reports that describe great fishing (or poor fishing) with no additional info are of little use to our readers.

Not a big deal. When I wrote my first report in this forum the mods gently reminded me of the need for date and county in the title line too.

Just so you know...there's tension over increased pressure from posts so this gets kinda sensitive...even more so with streams near heavy population like the LL.

I can tell you drove over another good stream ;-)

Between the PAFBC site and google maps you can find just about all you need. I don't mean to give you the "figure it out yourself, like the rest of us did" response but I haven't been out as much in the past few years, the streams have changed and so have my old go-to spots.

If you want a general overview, like where the reg's areas are, stocked areas, etc shoot me a PM and I can save you some time searching on your own

the water was cold 40 ish , a few midges , he caught 14 is this enough info for ya ? By the way nice report !
 
Give the Saucon off Rt 412 of I78 a try. You'll enjoy it.
 
Thank you all for the responses. I guess fishing locations can be a bit sensitive to some. I don't ever think that way because I catch and release EVERYTHING I catch.

I didn't mention the nymph I caught it on because it is something I tie myself and it wouldn't have done anyone any good saying what it was. I'd hand them out like candy to whoever I meet!

As for date and County, It was Febuary 1st. It was my first time fishing in Pa. It was right at the fish hatchery on the Little Lehigh. I walked along the path until I could find a place to fish without being 10 yards from someone. There was a tree overhanging the stream and I took most of them from under the tree. I have never been there so I can't be more specific than that.

Monocacy is in Bethlehem. Just trying to make sure someone doesn't spend all day looking around Easton for the Monocacy.

As BMarx said, this spot is know as the "kiddie pool". There are a lot of hatchery escapees in that spot and generally is a good place to pick up a few fish easily. Dont let the comments of a few people dictate how you view this site. You will not find a better group of people, willing to share information. I know the area streams pretty well give me a PM if you want some info.

Good God BMarx,

A little testy over a post that I caught fish? That's all I said! It was the first day I fished the location and it was the first day I joined this site. Just gave a quick update of how it went that day. I will certainly give more info in my posts when I really know where I am fishing and have better knowledge of the streams and locations.

BTW, Somehow, I think I will do just fine when I find the "Deep End"!

As well as all the others that have offered their constructive input/advice. Great name "Kiddie Pool". The same can be said for the Stretch of the Pequest River in NJ just downstream from the Pequest Trout Hatchery. Just stacked with fish and it is hard to leave there without having a decent day.

I hope to make my way around the area and find some other places to fish. I just want some "new" places to see. NJ has some great fishing and some great streams, it just gets a little boring seeing the same old landscape all the time!

DBNymph,next time you hit the LL park at the fly shop and fish the water from there down stream,nice water in that stretch.Also,there are plenty of trout thru out the LL,venture out of the Heritage.
 
Thanks, I made my way down almost to the second bridge. I guess my main concern was fishing somewhere legally. Until I learn the regulations, I didn't want to venture too far. The signs said Catch and Release Only and fishing year round, plus a zillion guys, so I figured I wasn't somewhere I wasn't supposed to be.
 
Oh shucks, you're right. Monocacy is not in Easton. Been awhile since I last fished trout up that way.

Thanks for the stream update! I am a beginner and I have always wanted to fish the LL, but I wasn't sure of where the better areas to fish were until I read your post. I catch and release everything and I just love the sport. Thanks for the updates and maybe I'll run into some of you guys out there when I finally venture up to the LL.
