Played hookey from work (client shouldn't have given me the option) and got to the stream and rigged a little before 10. Still lots of bugs and almost no risers; I think I saw one or two and I covered a lot of water. It was a beautiful day to be out and I fished three different spots starting above the fly stretch. Water was 56 when I checked; dead clear and a little above average flow. Weather was sunny with a breeze. Saw plenty of fish but they were spooky and the algae wasn't helping much. Several time I spooked good sized schools of suckers taking the trout with them. luckily, I didn't set the bar too high; I just wanted one decent stream bred brown. After about an hour or so of exploring I revisited a spot where I missed two small browns earlier this year. The first good hit of the day was answered with a big leap and spirited fight; a beautiful 13" brown with big spots and a nice red splash on the tail. Walked and fished my way upstream but despite some nice scenery didn't move any fish. Dropped back down to the lower FFO, and caught a cute 6" resident brown on a large (14 scud hook) caddis pupae. Downstream a bit further I goo got a huge hit in the fast water and landed a 13 in. rainbow. Hooked and lost one more big trout and missed a hit or two, but the action was a lot slower than I expected. Still it was great to get out and there are trout of many year classes in the stream. Hope we get some more rain....
