Took a Buddy to the Heritage Stretch (stop rolling your eyes please). Didn't arrive till around noon and it was sunny and 80 out; water was 62 and ripping pretty good. I think it was around 130cfs or so. Also, it had more of a greenish cast than I've seen before, which I found surprising since it hadn't rained in several days. Only a riser here and there, though we left about 8. Talked to one local I've met before over the years and he informed me the Trico hatch wasn't happening yet, but had started on the Monocacy. I haven't fished this stream much the past few years but it was tough yesterday. We fished down from the Fly shop and I caught a pretty stream bred brown in the first run we covered. It wasn't really crowded, and given the conditions I expected more action than we had. I missed a few, but just wasn't getting a lot of strikes and we covered a lot of water. Ended up with a hand full of wild browns and a fat rainbow a little over 14", plus another of the same size that jumped three times, came unbuttoned and rehooked midships on my trailer fly. Don't count the foul hooked ones, though it was a legit take. My friend got one fish in and it was a little local brown that hit his trailer fly when he wasn't looking. He had never caught a wild Brown before so that was a cool thing. Also he lost a pretty good fish, as well. We had a nice time, but next time I will probably fish out side the special regs area which is what I've been doing on pretty much all other streams anyway.

Thx, I'm definitely going to try some different water next time. I mostly hit the famous (over fished) stretch cause I wanted my bud to see it for a starting point. Hoping for work to let up a little so I can fish the Trykes at least once or twice.

Last wed was my first time on the LL, I also fished that stretch by heritage fly shop, unsuccessfully. It seems like a beautiful stream though, and I got to visit the Li-Le-Hi Trout nursery, which was cool. Hopefully at the Fish-n-Chips meet i can learn about some better sections to try out. I want the 1.5hr drive from Philly to be well worthwhile.

fishinphilly if you just want to catch fish there are always some good sized ugly fish by the hatchery. right at the wall. it can draw a crowd but there fish to be had. the further you move away the fishing get tougher but the fish are prettier. I pulled a nice fish bellow the wooden bridge last Monday. for the fish in the kitty pool a green weenie is fine for the fish outside of it. id say midges almost trico time to.
