Little Lehigh Heritage Section: 5-04-08

Fished the LLH with Wayne and a friend of mine yesterday evening. Started out right below the hatchery, and we all missed a few. The fish weren't too active, so we headed down to the flats to look for risers. Caught a nice wild brown that was doing some bank hugging on a cdc blue quill. Proceeded to spend the next hour trying to reach the far bank with my 4wt, and getting a decent cast about 70% of the time. Guess I still need some work on that.

Wayne and my friend both had multiple misses. Nice evening to get out, even though we didn't have much time or success.

I had to go to the Phila airport last Fri and stopped there on the way back. I caught one, missed a couple others. I have not been there for a few years and was surprised because there seems to be way fewer fish than before. Do you think so?

I've only been going there for the last two years, but I saw quite a few fish. From the stories I've heard, there aren't as many, but there sure are a bunch anyway.

there was a fly fishing convention or pow wow of some sort there on saturday (so I heard) so it probably got hit pretty hard the day before.

The pow wow was going on when I was there. Pretty trippy to fish to the beat of a drum.

They were setting up the pow-wow fri when I was there. There was no one fishing when i got there around 1pm. I left at 3pm, only saw two other guys the whole time, and they were only there for a few minutes.

I fished the heritage stretch for a couple hours on Saturday, May 3rd. I fish the Little Lehigh fairly frequently, almost always in the heritage stretch because I only go there for a couple hours at a time and don't feel like wadering up. I caught three on BWO emergers, all of them at the bend in the river adjacent to the fish hatchery.

My experience with the Heritage section is that the fish tend to stack up in places. The bend at the fish hatchery is one such place, the walking bridge below the fly shop is another. The fish are picky, but they don't spook often and they'll keep feeding after being disturbed. I think overall there are a ton of fish in there, but they congregate and aren't spread evenly throughout.

It's not my ideal fishing experience, but living in the Philly area it's about the best I can do without driving two plus hours. If I have the time, I'll drive 3-4 hours to Spring Creek, Falling Springs, Little J., or the West Branch and other well known streams as opposed to drive the 1 hour to fish the Little Lehigh.

A good evening was had thats for sure a little different fishing with drums beating but a nice stream and one I'll definitely be hitting again soon.
