Little Lehigh FFO section, Lehigh County, 4/10/11

Fished the Little Lehigh upper FFO section above and below the Macungie rd. bridge on sunday from about 9:00 a.m. until 12:30. This turned out to be one of my worst decisions in a while to head to this section of the stream.

It was a nice overcast morning with temps in the mid 60's. I did not take the water temp, but the water level was normal and was slightly off color due to the rain the previous Friday, but otherwise excellent condtions. In three hours I only saw one fish. No bugs at all. That section of the stream is in poor shape. I doubt I will return anytime soon.

I spent the afternoon on another stream and hit an awesome BWO hatch and caught a bunch of wild brownies. It made up for my rough morning for sure . . .

welcome to the best silt factory in the lehigh valley!...it has its moments (not many though), very few if any wild fish...decent tricos if you want to escape crowds but they should take out the dam.

Not sure what stream your fishing. Will agree that there are sections that are heavily silted. But there are alot of wild browns in that stream. The heritage section and the open water below holds a ton of wild browns.

I didn't fish anywhere near the Heritage section and I agree that the water from there to well below the covered bridge hold a lot of wild brownies. I fish that area extensively during the Trico and Sulphur hatches. I fished the Upper FFO section on Sunday. If you know the stream you should know where I am referring to. It is well upstream from the Heritage section.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the LL in general. Yeah that section is really bad, I dont fish there much at all. Much better places on the LL than that. Much of the open water is great fishing, and receives little fly fishing pressure.

I fished the LL on Sat. and caught 4 nice browns. I fished both above the heritage section and below it. I went to the section just below the hatchery and saw 3 guys standing midstream so I headed downstream. I hope they put back the No Wading signs. My opinion, this stream will only degrade from the pounding of waders day after day. Lets keep whats left of this limestone gem viable to all who fish it.

As stated above the upper ffo can be a decent get away for trico that's about it. There are wild browns in there though if you fish it on the right days.

Next time just head even farther upstream (about 3 miles) to the ATW and you'll find wild brown heaven. Drop me a line if you need a tour.
