Little Lehigh Creek, Lehigh Co, 04/01/12

Just a bit chilly & windy in the AM, a mix of sun and clouds in the PM, lucky that the rain didn't appear as forecast.

Rising Trout up and down the fly stretch! There where Midges, small Stoneflies, Yellow Craneflies, BWOs, and Tan Caddis all coming off. The Elk Hair Caddis was the productive fly of the day, for me.

Caught 2 browns in the AM (Changed flies about 5 times, re-built my leader and eventually found the working fly) and caught 11 (mostly browns) in the PM all on a traditional Tan Elk Hair Caddis. I lost 4 fish-ons before I looked at my fly and noticed that the hook was broken.

The insect life is returning to the Little Lehigh Creek!. Yellow craneflies are NOT a common sight on the LL. Fishable BWO hatches haven't been here for about 8-9 years, yet that is what everyone has been catching fish on the past month. I have never seen the Tan Caddis as prolific as today. Hoping for a Terrific Sulfur Hatch and an exciting Trico Hatch.

I had a friend call me today and tell me he hit an amazing crane fly hatch on the LL.

Good to see you posting here again Miro.

The Little Lehigh hatches have been on the upswing the past year or two. That was a pretty good caddis hatch today - been a lot of years since I saw one like that down there.

The tricos were good last year, and I'm betting the sulphurs will be good this year too. A return to the old days!

Good to hear. Several other SE PA streams have much better bug life going on too. This warm winter must have a lot to do with it.

The other factor to me is that we didn't have gully washers since September. Late fall and winter spates wash the shoals of fallen leaves into the Delaware and removes biomass, aka caddis, etc. food, from the watershed. No food, no buggies.
