Little Lehigh Creek at Fish Hatchery Road 12/26/07

Stopped at the LL on my way home from Christmas with the family in Chalfont. Got to the creek around 0900 and it was still below freezing, surprisingly there were a couple other guys there getting ready to fish.
Water was high and a little off color but still fishable, walked down to the second hole after the bridge and ended up spending almost three hours in the same place. Landed 4 rainbows, 2 browns and two suckers with at least 4 more remote releases, nothing over 14 inches but still a great time. They liked the sucker spawn and the red San Juan worm.

Stopped in the fly shop to warm up and found the owner to be very nice and informative offering advice and coffee without looking for me to spend a lot of money.

What size hooks for the sucker spawns and san juan worms? Always had luck with sucker spawns but never with the san juans . . . must be using either a size too big or too small. Thinking about heading up there this afternoon. Seems like a perfect day . . . hopefully not crowded.

I've used Mustad 37160s in 10 with about 2 inches of red chenille for my San Juan worms. They work well at the LL. I don't think hook size is that important. If they are too small the chenille might interfere with a hookup but anything from a 14 to an 8 would do.

I agree with Joe.
There is also another style of san juan that works for me, especially on the LL. I use a Mustad streamer hook (9672) in 8 through 12 and just wrap it in red thread with a little red floss (about 1/4 ") hanging from either end. I usually fish it deep and close to the banks so I loose a lot but they are cheap and easy to tie.
