Little Juniata River, Huntington Cty, 10.11.2007

Paul G and I made our annual pilgrimage to the little J yesterday. On Wednesday we fished in short sleeves and 85 degree weather. Today was the mid 50's with wind. We froze our butts off. Water temp 58, occasional drizzle. A few olives in the air, many caddis and enough rising fish to keep us on top. Paul got 5 or 6 and I got a dozen. All on slate drake drys, comapraduns and catskills. And a few on a beadhead Iso nymph. At one point fish were very aggressive toward our offerings but generally it was a slow day. We fished from about 2PM to 6pm.

The little J is always a fulfilling experience. Nothing like strong wild browns on an aggressive feed. A couple spin fishers leap-frogged me. They were in my line of site for about an hour and I saw them bring in at least a dozen fish. One after another. They were very courteous to not jump in front of me while I worked up through my favortie pool

Here are some pics. The last one of Paul freezing before we fished. :-D Fish ranged from 9-14" not alot of juvenile fish like usual.

I'll concede that turning around onthe interstate is a better idea than taking the "back way" in mountain country. But you have to admit and Paul will too...that the scenery in rural PA in mid October beats the highway drive 10:1.

We were lost more than once.....each way. and we know the way...we thought. It was a great trip. Two buds in a car, battling out the right way to go. It don't get any better.

Yeah, it's not like it was the first time we made that trip. It's always fun fishing with Maurice, he will keep you entertain, even when a 2 hr trips turns into 3 hrs.
