Little Juniata river - Huntington county - 5/4/10 to 5/6/10

Spent 3 days on the little j this past week. The water level was still a little high yet from 1.5 inches of rain the area had last weekend, but quite clear and very fishable. Sulphers hatched very well during the last few hours of the day, and I found plenty of fish rising to them.
However, surface activity was very slow during the mornings and afternoons. Likely because of the sunny, windy weather conditions.
It blew hard enough to fill the rivers surface with lots of maple seeds and flower buds from the surrounding trees.
I did many manage to take a few fish on beetles here and there during the daytime, though.

As a side note, I stopped at Piney creek on the way home thursday afternoon. Spent 3 hours casting a beetle on some favorite pools there without even getting a hit. Didn't see a single rise, and saw nothing hatching at all. A little odd for that stream at this time of year

A few years back at Piney I struck out on that stream. Kinda surprised me also.

Piney is a nice little stream. I've often gone there when the little j was blown out. And during this time of year, I've always seen sulphers, gray fox, and caddis hatching. It's well canopied in most spots, and those flies usually come off all day there.
I'm still surprised how dead it was with surface activity that day, though
