Blue bird skies all day. Air temps high 30s into the 50s. Just enough of a breeze at times to make you curse the fishing gods. CFS 609 falling to 580 by the end of the day. Water temps according to the new gauge were 42 rising to around 44. Water was mean and green. By the way what exactly gives rivers that emerald green appearance during the winter and early spring?
Fished above Babe Road in some of the deeper, slower runs in the morning and nymphed up a couple mainly on darker caddis patterns.
During the afternoon and evening I fished the Gorge and caught around 10 mainly on #16 baetis type nymphs. All fish came out of shallow riffles after the water temps had came up a degree or two.
Pretty steady BWO hatch going on in the Gorge. There were also some larger mayflies hatching at the same time, but in smaller numbers. I thought maybe they were Quill Gordons. I watched the large pool for about 10 minutes and saw around 6 or 8 rises, but not enough to make me want to change over to fish dries.
