Friday: Cloudy all morning, gauge at 8AM was 2.95 ft., water was a perfect tint of green, water temps measured around noon were around 44 above spruce creek. Air temps started around 50 in the morning and got close to, if not hit, 70 by 2 PM when the sun was finally coming out.
Fishing: Better in the morning with only a few BWO's coming off due to the misty overcast weather. We were hoping for grannoms since the red buds were on since early last week. No luck on the grannoms. Saw mostly BWO's, few small black stoneflies, and a hand full of caddis when the sun came out. Only caught 5 browns mostly using small PT's with a hotspot.
Sunday: Beautiful morning around 9AM when we got on the water. Gauge when I left the car said 2.74 ft (only a little above perfect). Air temps were around 55-60 when we got on the water. Water temp was around 48-50 (my thermo measures 210 F in boiling water, so account for 2-3 low). Water hit 55 below Barree around 2 PM. Saw more grannoms in the air and on the tressels, but no real emergence to be had either.
Fishing: Fish were much more hungry with the water temps on the rise. They would take PT's, sparkle pupa, and some fenchies I tied. We found a few in the riffles and a larger number in the shallower runs. Caught some nicer fish with my friend landing a 19 inch bull in the morning. Nicer fish were caught today than on friday. We were shooting video so alot of time was spent doing that.
Lots of rain Sunday night. The gauges were at 4.3 this morning when I checked. So it looks like the grannom will come off in high water this year. Maybe next year for us.
