Arrived around 4:30, decided to try near Barree, up the road from the white cabin in a personal favorite spot.. Air temperature was about 63 degrees, with a steady rain, and it was very strange, half of the river across was chocolate milk, and the other half was pretty clear. Another angler in the area claimed that it was due to one of the cornfields in the area having run off problems, and would probably clear up soon. I decided to stick around, and am glad I did.
Walked down past the large pool into some of the riffles, and started with a sulphur emerger pattern. Caught two on this, each about ten inches, while simply dragging in the current. As the water cleared a little, more and more fish began to rise. I switched to a dry sulphur, with an emerger trailer, and this is when the fun really began.
Continued to work my way down through the stretch, and a few casts later, caught a nice 12 incher. Then, noticed a few fish dimpling in the slackwater behind a fallen tree. A few casts later, caught my first 15 inch trout of the season. Another nice one was rising back there, got him to come up twice, but wasn't able to hook him either time.
After this, came back up to the first pool, and caught several more, each probably about 10-13 inches. A very nice one was rising under a tree, but the cast was just too difficult to make without getting hung up.
Also got to experience one non trout-related event. While targeting a fish on the far bank, I heard what I initially thought was a soft clap of thunder behind me. However, upon turning around, I saw that there was a large wake. Then, in the same exact spot, I noticed what had to be a 20 pound or so carp violently jump out of the water
