Little Juniata, Huntington County 4/23/17

I fished the Little J for the second time on Sunday, what a great river! A buddy and I left northern Virginia at 3 am and were in the water by 7. The flows were a little over 300 but I didn't get a temp. We started at Tyrone and fished our way down to confluence with Frankstown branch, by 8 pm I was pretty warn out, it was a tough ride home. I saw a variety of insects and some risers but nothing steady. I saw caddis, midges, olives, a couple sulfers and march browns, basically bug soup. We caught fish all day long, atleast 30 between the two of us. My winning patterns were a peeking caddis and a zebra midge. The takes on the caddis were violent on a tight line. I hope to get back soon.

Were you in a watercraft of some sort to cover that much river?

Nope, just driving, hiking and wading for 13 hours.

I caught a carbon copy of the fish in the third pic there two Sundays ago. Further up in the Gorge though. And had a monter well into the low 20's spit the hook...size 18 caddis nymphs on a scud hook...what ya gonna do.

Nice fish. That's a butt kicker of a day. I'd be tired too.

I'm still convinced you're Brooks Orpik. Surprised you're getting this much fishing time in still being alive in the playoffs. Too bad about the matchup with the Pens. Otherwise I'd be rooting for the Caps against anyone else.

Tell them Sheehan, that is just a normal day on the water for us drive-forever, fish and wade all day guys.

Good report, pretty fish. It stinks you didn't the Grannoms to come off heavy there. Its pretty epic. Not a huge fan of that river myself, pretty featureless for the most part.

Not a fan of the little J? One of the best most underrated fisheries I ever fished. If i lived closer I would fish it every day. That is one good river IMO.

Nope... the water is "too connected" if that makes any sense. For example the section above the confluence of Spruce Creek - sure when it's mid June it adds some character but for the most part she doesn't have any curves. She looks good but she isn't sexy.

Tons of fish but a lot of other streams I'd rather be on.

Lol more room for me on the J if you don't like it. Glad you could make the trip up to fish it. Tons of beautiful river sections and lots of fish to catch. Glad to hear the fish are eating good, haven't been able to sneak over for a trip since it's gotten warm. Grannom hatches have been disappointing for us this year so far, lots of grannoms, not many fish rising. Heard the same thing from guys at the tav in spruce creek on our way home from penns a few weeks ago.
