Little Juniata , Huntingdon County, 7/10/17

In response to some of the warm water talk on the board I figured Id give an update on the Little J for those who are out of the area and dont have the ability to stick a thermometer in the water everyday.

Fortunately the j is still very fishable, the rain in June has really helped out for this summer. Midday temps are still in the low 60's.

Still some light cahills around, as well as an occasional iso. Tan caddis as well.

The river is starting to take shape of an average summer, up untill recently the levels have been higher than average due to the June rains, but its starting to come down, last nights rain put it back up around 200 cfs.

Overrall the fishing is pretty darn good, especially for July. Get out and get to it if you have a chance. Wont be too much longer till the heat really gets it.

I've only fished the little J a few times but I thought it got cooler as you moved down from Tyrone. I don't know the river well at all so it's more of a question then a statement. It is a fantastic fishery.

71 at tyrone isn't really surprising to me. It's arguably the warmest section on the whole river. Below green hills can get up there too though.

You need to move downstream, the river cools considerably after the road springs.

Above Tyrone is always wamer than the rest of the river

I went to a LJRA meeting last evening. Most of those guys are not fishing the LJR right now b/c of high water temps even way down from Tyrone.

7-13-17 3:30pm Pemberton 72 degrees. That's with 6 major springs upstream from where I took the temp.

Last temp was taken at Irish Flat. Not in or above town.

Never heard of the "Road Spring". Maybe 100 springs

Sage, thanks for the info. That is really surprising to me. Looks like I don't know the river as well as i think. If i understand correctly, it was 1 degree warmer at Pemberton than at Irish flats? That makes no sense to me, im not saying it isn't correct though. The small amount of rain may have played a small role (if it was warm rain). Also At around 190cfs, the spring's play less of a role than if it was at 70cfs, but at 190 there's also more water that the air has to warm up. Pretty Interesting problem and I'm surprised at the results.
