Beautiful day, poor fishing. Neither did the grannoms or beatis appear in any number that any trout cared about. It's flowing a little much for me. It's already , in my opinion, the most treacherous river I wade. Really tough to move around much.
Caught a big brookie on a grannom wet fly in the 1st 5 min. along River Road below the camp ground. I moved up between Barree and the gorge mouth. Nuttin'. Then in more mild water from the Grier school to Ironville. Nuttin. This time I was using pale yellow sucker spawn with a beatis nymph trailing.
Grannoms are funny. They might explode tomorrow. We'll see.

Was there yesterday and didn’t see any Grannoms either, although they were hatching on Spruce in decent numbers. I Flipped a few rocks on the J and they are just covered with casings.. Since it was overcast and cool, the BWO hatch stole the day. Actually one of the best I’ve seen in quite a few years as trout were rising everywhere, even right next to me, literally, as I fished. (That’s how you know the hatch is really good when the trout completely lose caution and jump out of the water onto your leg to grab a fly.)

I was there also that day and shocked how slow the fishing activity was, caught two after hundreds of casts on caddis larva.

I do not light the world on fire catching fish, however, I usually get hits and have activity, next to none that day.
