Little Juniata, Huntingdon Co., 6/6/2009

Fished the Little Juniata near Huntingdon at Route 305 last night starting about 6:00 PM. Weather was warm, sunny and temps about 80 when we left the truck. Water was surprising clear and looks like the USGS Guage station at Spruce showed the cfs at about 180.

No bugs and very little rises all night with some sporadic larger sulphur looking thing (my tech talk for the day) coming off about a size #16-14. No luck until dark at about 9:00 when the all the bugs showed up at once. Some smaller sulphurs and more abundante larger looking sulphur that I could not identify. Same coloring as the Ephemerella dorothea with the yellow-cream thorax and brighter yellow body, but size #14 and dark eyes. Don't know the Little Jay too well so not sure.

Anyway only lasted about 30 minutes and landed several fish finally. A couple of real nice browns.

We made our way to Walt's Cafe on Washington Street in Huntingdon later that night for a late night breakfeast.

I was up at the little j May 29th and May 30th and there was a big difference between the 2 days. That Friday which would be the 29th there were all kinds of rises from the bridge in barree down to the tunnel but I had no takers and the 30th which was saturday there were very little risers and again no takers very hard 2 days.

Might have been a few days of hard fishing but im still sure it was worth it ;-)

Nothing like bugs and trout :-D

yeah but i did manage to catch a smallmouth and a fall fish out there but no trout.
