I pretty good size rain event hit on Sunday and It looked like to me the stream levels would be getting low enough for fishing on Wed. I was determined to get out and wet my line this week and heard the Little J was doing pretty well. So I took a day off from work and made my way up.
The weather was forecasted mostly cloudy, but turned there were very little clouds. Very clear skies and warm with air temps about 70.
The water level had moved from 700cfs on Sunday to ~400cfs on Wednesday. It was a little fast for me and prolly would have enjoyed 300cfs. It was pretty clear and could see about 2-3 feet of visibility. The water temp was at 60 degrees.
I fished from about 11 am to about 7:45 in a few different sections of the river. Mid-day there was a few caddis and a smattering of BWO, but no real hatches. At the end of the day a decent invaria (#14 Sulphur) hatch came off. It was nice to see a big bug flying around. No real risers to the hatch, even at the end of the day.
I caught most of my fish nymphing with Walt's Worms mid-day in the faster water. I tried everything I had, top and bottom, in the evening and had no luck. I had a great time fishing, eating lunch, enjoying a cigar and enjoying some stream watching. Glad to see the sulphurs starting.
