Little Juniata (and Tribs), Blair Co, 6/15/11

Spent the day fishing the Little J and a couple of its tribs. One of the best day's fishing i've ever had. Started out slow at the Little J. Picked up a couple fished on a elk hair caddis and pheasant tail. Moved to Tipton in the afternoon and caught a bunch of browns on elk hair. Most were in the 5inch range. Went back to the Little J around 6pm and it was non stop till dark. Fish were taking emerger patterns. Not sure what was coming off, but it looked like light cahills and some caddis. A white colored fly was in good numbers, not sure what it was. This is a great stream and from what i've heard from others may be the best in the state right now.

I fished it earlier in the week, all downstream from the route 45 bridge and I had a very similar day. It's been fishing very well lately.

In the early evening, there were bugs coming off, looked like a 16-18 something, they were a brown/reddish brown. Then just before dusk there were some iso's and cream cahills. I swear I still saw some coffin flies, but i may be an idiot.

Glad you did well! If you ever want to fish it with someone, let me know. I hit it at least once a week!

This was my favorite stream to fish while I was a student at Penn State back in the early '90s.

I cut my teeth on the section stream above Baree. Great to hear it still is fishing well, 20 years later. Is public access still pretty easy? I know there were some issues/hard feelings when the Espy farm section got leased, but there was so much other water to explore, I never felt at a loss.

I caught a 24" brown on a Hornberg streamer below the bridge at Baree back in October of 1994 that I will never forget, not to mention the summer nights fishing the slate drakes and white flies.

Access is pretty darn easy, unless you want to fish stretches that don't see many anglers. But that's how it normally goes, right? It is by far my favorite river to fish, and I have quite a few sections to choose from, living so close to it. I know some people would kill to be in my shoes!
