Little J Huntingdon County 4/25-4/26

Ok...I am stumped...I am not an expert but usual catch my fair share. My buddy and I got to the Little J (we went under the railroad through a little tunnel near the bridge they are fixing on the main road) around 8 am...saw a few fish taking bugs on the water surface...he hooked a nice brown within a few casts with a small hendrickson nymph...and then the surface activity stopped..caddis appeared pretty much everywhere on the creek but no action on the surface...I couldn't figure them out...
Fished until about noon.

Went to Greene Hills Camp Ground to set up camp...got back on the water around 3:30 pm...around 6 sporadic takes on the surface...but not on caddis...a very small (like size 18 pale yellow mayfly...what is that critter)...then around 7 I picked up a nice brown about 15" or so on a small black Elk Hair Caddis...

Woke up nice and early...no rises...no action...could this hot streak turn them off...what gives?

Dazed and confused...and appearently not a very good fisherman...I know it is called fishing and not catching but I usually do much better than this showing...

The fish taught me a lesson the last time I was there (Sat Apr 18). I got just the one nice rainbow. Better luck next time!

I was down there yesterday also, the grannom hatched in the morning, pupa imitation needed,caddis flight in the evening did well with drys.
Only mayflys I saw were BWO's and Blue Quills.

I think you've got it right about the warm weather messing things up. Fished two different Berks Co. streams as well as the L.Lehigh over the weekend and had similar results. Virtually nothing hatching, little surface activity and very limited success with nymphs and wets. I've seen this happen in the past when there's a drastic temp. change like the last couple of days. Fortunately, it's usually short lived and things should get back to normal soon.

Boss... I am ashamed to admit it as well, but I made a short trip to the Little J on Thursday (April 23) and was shut out in the 2 hours I was there (from 5-7pm). Saw sporadic rises, and nothing was taking caddis pupae. My buddy who was spin fishing managed to catch one, but even he only had that one bite. Those fish have got to be so full from the Caddis hatch... Its been going on strong for awhile now!

Bright sunshine can just be a killer on so many days. Always, always make sure to hit the water on those evenings. Those sporadic bugs during the entire day, can lead to a terrific 45 minute spinnerfall.
More than once I've seen trout lying on the bottom after a large hatch. It sure looks to me like they're simply undoing their belts on the reclyner after Thanksgiving.

Olive Caddis size 14- 16 have been on the river,orange craneflies, BWO size 18's and of course been fishing Light Hendricksons (Sulphers) the last few days, Light Hendrickson hatch is getting heavier by the day.

nice....we saw quite a few crane flies last weekend...can't say it appeared the fish were taking them though...thanks for the update

Was given the word live over the phone that the Light Hendricksons are starting to get a little thick on the water.
