TomGamber, JackM and I rode car pooled together to the Little J on Saturday and fished from 2:30 to dark. Cream midges seemed to be the predominate bug (in the air at least). There were also a smattering of BWOs and Caddis. The slow pools held some rising fish. We were able to entice the fish with cream/light yellow dries in size 16-18. Not sure if the fish thought they were jumbo midges, but whatever -- they worked. All three of us landed more than one fish, so I'd call the trip a resounding success. Its tough to beat a late September afternoon on a fine trout stream with rising fish (except perhaps a May evening).

A good time was had....

I got two fish on top, lost one and missed a couple. The two fish on top were, of course, the equivalent of 8 fish on nymphs, which would have been a great day for most nymphers in September. I got wet from bad waders, but Albatross and Tom got wet from bad balance, Tom a bit wetter than Albatross. The caddis where pale white with a slight cinnamon cast to them in about size 14-12 and seemed to pick up as it got dark. The BWOs were a silvery blue as seen in the air and were probably size 20 or so. The midges were..., well, who cares?

Jack was wet form the waist down..I was wet from the waist up...between the two of us ...one of us was dry...Anyone who doesn't wear a wading belt is nuts...
