Stepped out of a father's day party at my parents' this evening for about a half hour to make a couple of casts to some fishy looking water outside their house about a mile south of Millersville Borough.
Using a size 10 olive bugger with gray hackle, caught a 14" sucker on my first cast. Shortly thereafter, caught a 10" catfish and a Walleye in the 12" range. Was a little unnerved by this guy's teeth. I was using my dad's rod, which was rigged for trout with a 5x tippet. My fears were confirmed when about 5 minutes later, I hooked a big walleye, approximately 16" in length, who broke me clean off. Also had a HUGE carp inspect the bugger, follow it all of the way across the stream, but ultimately refuse it.
In a half hour of fishing, I caught three different fish, none of which I had ever caught before on the flyrod. I'm normally a trout guy, but I'll be doing that again soon, I can assure you -- particularly in the dead of summer when the trout are under stress.
The water was running clear and healthy (not sure of the temp), but there were crayfish everywhere.
