This was the final stream we fished this past Sunday. I have always looked at my Delorme Maps at this area and instantly would focus on this stream. Ive read a lot about this creek and its potential for nice fish and good hatches. I couldnt wait to try it.
We fished from the confluence of Big Full Run upstream a great distance and even downstream a distance. I was instantly impressed with the look and size of the stream. It can be small at times and tight but it can be fair to medium size. Over all the stream has nice depth at this time of year and the flow was nice. The water wasent crystal clear.
The wooded sections of this stream are amazing pretty. I thought that throughout this trip but yet there was alot of trash just away from the streams.
The water quailty of this stream is very good. There was a lot of bug activity. There were about 3 differnt types of caddis, a few unidentified mayflies and a heavy hatch of what i swear was a Adams female. It looked like an Adams with the yellow butt. It was cool 🙂
This fish, at least the stocked ones seemed held up in the best of pools. We caught them on buggers. White and olive. Some fish were rising and by what i could tell they were all wild. The rise forms were small and the fish looked smaller. I had a few fish hooked that sure felt wild. I have no doubt it was the resident wild browns in the stream. However, one of the fly fisherman i ran into asked if we caught anything big. I informed him i had a 20+ rainbow hooked and for an intensive purposes landed and spectorfly caught a 19-20 inch bow. We were happy 🙂
One cool thing was i saw 3 other fisherman the whole time i was fishing Blair County Streams. All were fly fisherman. If you want solitude and some great hatches, Blair County is a good bet 🙂
More over i liked the way you had the rail bed to help aid in access to the stream and back. The streams fish were spread out nicely(the stockers that is). The wild fish are in there though we didnt catch any. But i had a bunch of hits.
I give this stream an A. I plan on heading back and exploring it some more!
