i couldnt resist today. even though it was raining, i figured the water is slowly getting in better shape. headed out to litltz run b4 work and walked up to the best section in the C&R area. i saw tons of holdover trout. in the 1 hour fished i hooked into to bows both over 16 inches. i landed one and the other got away after a long fight. i did see one brown (the one i can never catch) and he is looking so beautiful right now. that fish has to be over 25-27 inches now. he is huge.
i also walked downstream to the most elusive trout in the whole stream. this bow is very large i dont know his exact length because i have never caught him. the problem with this fish his he switches up his lie very often in a stretch about 100 yards long. but i did find him today and he saw me in an instant and left a carp like wake behind him. WHAT A FISH! someday ill get a pic of him.
then i went downstream to the hess farm and fed the fish in my last 30 mins before work. im gonna have to get a video of that so u guys can see it...its amazing.
might go towmorrow morning or later in the week to this wonderful spring creek. thank you donegal TU for all your hard work.
speaking of which.....i saw in the latest donegal TU newsletter that the fish commission determined no natural reproduction of trout was taking place in the stream, but the encountered alot of holdover trout. i can tell you that it is going on a very mininal level. i have caught tiny rainbows in the 1-5 inch range before on this stream and im not the only one. it is rare but they are there. i think the natural reproduction is severly limited but taking place. it stated that the stream could be upgraded to a cold water fishery but the water quiality is still very bad. back to the drawing board. someday this stream is going to be 5 star. dont give up guys! :-D
p.s. opps sorry forgot to mention.....i hooked on fish on a bh olive bugger and the other on a crayfish pattern way down deep in a big hole. :-D
