Lititz Run, Lancaster County, 4/18/2014

I had the day off yesterday so I decided to put my newly acquired Millport Conservancy badge to good use. First, let me say, this is a cool little stream. I only fished below the conservancy once and it’s also nice, but this area is just cool. I started off near the bottom of the conservancy and within a few casts I hooked into a nice brown that quickly lept about 4 feet out of the water and threw the hook. Quickly after I hooked and landed a beautiful (wild?) rainbow about 12” long. Both were on one of my first hand tied flies, the IPW. I thought that this was going to be easy going as those first two happened within 5 minutes. I was wrong. I worked several hundred yards upstream until I had 3 more misses on a streamer, 1 of which appeared to be a brute. After that NADA! I was getting sick of dodging nesting geese so I left and went down to the Thompson Farm and had no luck there. I’m excited to get back after this weather turns, it greens up a little and we start getting some hatches. I will say there were small BWOs hatching sporadically but nothing was moving to the surface for them. Overall, a nice day on the water.

Not wild, but some of the pics of the bows I've seen from that stretch are beautiful.

There's never been anything substantial that I'm aware of. Lititz Run is a stocked fishery with some nice hatches, fishable water year 'round (especially in the conservancy), but I don't believe it will ever be a wild fishery. There's too much junk going on upstream I think.

Yup. Having a sewage treatment plant upstream really can't be a good thing. As you said, it's a neat little stream with stocked fish that is fishable year 'round.

They've tried vibert boxes upstream in the Banta property with very little success. Sometimes you can't "force" what Mother Nature controls...

@thesmayway I've lived on Warwick Rd my entire life and fish there every chance I get (granted the stream is 20ft across from my house), and I can tell you it is by far the best stream to fish in Lancaster County. Next time you come up try the section above the pond on Warwick Rd all the way up to 772, trust me, you will not be disappointed!

PS-isn't the stretch from Warwick Rd upstream to 772 the Conservancy? You can't just fish that stretch....

You have to buy a button. It's off limits unless you pay $. Stocked fish. Lititz Run is nothing special.

Hell the Conestoga River is a better stream to fish really.

Well, since everyone is a debby downer I'll just keep my comments and thoughts to myself. Just was happy to see that someone else who fishes the stream gets as excited as I do.

Don't worry about it b...to them there are better streams in the county. Most of the posters here simply love wild trout (myself included) more than stocked trout. Doesn't mean you have to agree, if that stream is great to you then post away.

So is the Cocalico and any number of WW streams in Lancaster... as well as any number of trout streams.

I missed the original post. Tryin' to figure out how an 8 month old stream report got bumped to be honest with you, then I was distracted by the "best stream in Lancaster County".

I catch a lot of wild fish on it though.....rock bass, chubs, etc.

bstory - everyone's got their own definition of what "best" is, don't let anyone else's get in the way of yours. Glad you found the stream that qualifies for it. It's good to have that home water you can go to whenever you need to. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it and have fun fishing it!
