I fished Lititz Run during the afternoon on Saturday. The water was high and slightly off color. I started the day at the concrete bridge at the C&R. There were about 5 or 6 other anglers in the lower meadow when I arrived around 12:30. When I arrived there was also a dead skunk near the bridge and it ended up being a metaphor for the afternoon. I had one light take while dredging the bottom at the C&R. There were a good number of midges coming off. I saw two rises while I was at the C&R. I then went a few miles upstream. Again I found high and slightly clearer water. I hooked one fish but lost it before it came to hand. I almost had the fish to my feet before it got away and I think it was one of those feisty, stream-bred rainbows. I missed this same fish twice in the fall and twice yesterday. Unfortunately, the water was a little too fast and cold at the upper end of the stream. The midge hatches were the best I have ever seen. They were so thick that I had to hold my breath at times. When I went to leave, I quickly opened the truck door to jump in and over 100 midges made it inside in the few seconds I kept the door open. Cream midges and black midges were everywhere. Unfortunately, I could not find a single rising fish on the upper end. Nonetheless, it was a great day to be on the stream. I met a fellow PaFlyFish member and saw enough trout to satisfy the cabin fever. I have attached a cell phone picture of the midges. It does not come close to doing justice to the amount of bugs around the stream.

It was nice meeting you Chris,
I fished my way upstream from where we talked, missed a couple on scuds in some riffles I rarely fish then landed one up on the top side of the C&R area on a bugger.
Today during my lunch break I slipped into the Riparian park and landed one small brown and had a handful more swipe at my bugger but couldn't hook up with any others.
Beautiful weather this weekend and continuing into the beginning of the week!

Yep that looks like a typical midge hatch on the Run.
