Lititz Run, Lancaster County, 3/27/09

I fished Lititz Run on Friday afternoon. Air temps were in the 60s. Water was low and clear. I caught three rainbows: one about 19-20", one about 12", and a 10" rainbow that appeared to be wild. I have caught wild rainbows at Lititz Run before, but this was the largest. I only saw two fish rising; however, there was a steady flow of tan caddis (~size 14) coming off all afternoon. I also saw tons of midges and a few BWO. I fished the upper section of the C&R, but I would imagine that fish were rising down by the concrete bridge. Great day to be out, but the ram chased me across the stream for the first time ever.
 
Do you have a pic. and did you use fluorocarbon?
 
Im 100 percent positive he used fluorocarbon. He said he used it in the other thread ;-)
 
Sal, send me a PM as to where to go on Lititz and I'll go this week with my mono. If I don't need fluoro on Valley I don't need it anywhere. 😎 ;-) . By the way this is just good clean fun! We already debated this subject. ;-)
 
I used a fluoro leader and tippet set up. I only picked up fish sub-surface.

ok but be ready to get humbled. This stream i think is harder than Valley. And im not saying that because you are going to use mono either ;-) Let us know how you make out 🙂
 
No not yet. I just made that comment because the fish in Valley are actually looking for real food. Not man made food. Im just guessin and just sayin ...

So then you really can't say it is harder then valley. Because you obviously really don't have a clue. Just like I don't know what Lititz is like. But what I can say about Valley is guys fishing twice as long as us say it's one of the toughest streams in the state.
 
ok true. but those fish want real food. On lititz they dont. and you cant fish bait so they are real tough to catch. Ive heard people here say that Lititz fish are as hard as Letort fish. That i do have a clue on. Just let us know how ya do.
 
What do they eat all day and night then?

Ya i hear ya but the big fish are about 10 years old or more and are accustomed to eating them. Ive used pellet flys with some success. But when nothing is hatching, which is often on Lititz Run, but that is slowly changing thank god, they dont want anything else. I wish they would stop feeding the fish and let nature run its course. Ask squaretail about the trip we took. He will tell ya those damn fish just want fake food ;-)
 
The whole stream is pellet fed? How long is the stream? I thought this stream was hard in the aspect of weary trout not pellet fed trout. Kinda lame. I'll still go though b/c I never fished it before.
 
Well im guessing its about 5 miles or more. They top section (through Lititz isnt pellet fed. Its channelized with very limited trout.
The next section through the Raparian(sp) park is first day water. That section is small. After that (on the Banta Property) is closed to fishing. They stocked 10,000 fingerlings to see if they will survive.

The Conservany is the next section (about a mile?) is pellet fed and requires a badge to fish.

From there is some open water that is unstocked and not pellet fed (about .25 miles?) The Catch and Release water is after that (open to everyone and about 1 mile or 1 1/2 mile. That is pellet fed. After that is open water again and is unstocked and not pellet fed.

Oh they are very wary. They even hang around the edges of the stream waiting for anglers to walk by. As much as they are fed they are also fished for. I tell anyone that is going to fish the stream to fish the stream banks first with very long casts.
 
Who feeds them Pellets? The general public?
 
Donegal TU did for a very long time. Some people do also. And if I remember the Farmers might also.

That is why there are so many large fish. Old and fed to being ridiculous. Interestingly enough most people dont think there are big fish until someone feeds them. They hide very well.

In the Conservancy Barn is a Large Trash Can filled with the darn things.
 
I am sure there are some hogs in there. Like I said before the whole pellet thing is LAMO. Why do they do that?
