Millport Conservancy:
i started at the lower end of the millport conservancy today. it appeared to have less trout in the lower end than the upper end. i did however see a huge old brown trout rising. these big fish are very old pellet suckers but do eat other things. being so old they are extremely angler wary and almost impossible to catch. i could see the fish wiggle as the butt end of my leader would hit the water. then the fly would lightly fall and he would inspect lightly and refuse it. i think he could feel my presence so i couldnt catch him. i did manage a fresh stocked brown on a BWO and a few rainbows on buggers. midges were out again (olive). not much surface activity though. alot of fish in the middle and upper end. great fishing! now just a warning. today i ran into a TU member that feeds the fish. man you should have seen it when he threw those pellets in . about 10 trout in one hole were going nuts! he also commented to me how many anglers were on the water today. all in the upper end. now i assume they all had badges. dont just go fish there. you need the badge. i feel like you guys do about private water, especially about the SRC, but this is worth it. its not 90,000 dollars or anything. just a simple 20 dollar for one year. it gives you a little piece of some private water that there usually isnt to many people on. not to mention the big fish! so get the badge dont just go there, trust me you dont wanna **** lynn and logan off. that is thier land and they have graciously opened it up. i have thanked them many times over! they made 500 badges this year.

i love the millport conservancy because it resembles a spring creek more up there but the C&R water has some really old bruts in there. i had my chances at 6 big fish today. 1 snapped me off, 3 tried to hit my fly and missed(then never tried again, and landed 2. not a great ratio but well worth it! i know where every big fish in that stretch is(at least i thought). i caught 1 nice holdover brown on a white wooly bugger. i have never seen him there in the past 10 years. i have no idea where he came from. it was a pleasure to make his aquintance and release him. i would guess him to be 18 inches. beautiful yellow and nice fins on him.
the other big one is a funny story! most of these fish have been sitting in one hole forever. this one brown i have been trying to catch for 3 years now. 2 times i have had him hooked. once on a white bugger(go figure) and once on a pink san juan worm. well the third times the charm! the kicker is you would never guess what i caught him on. he sits in a slow current waiting for pellets. well the only hatch present and a few fish were taking was black midges. they were in my face, nose , eyes, the air and everywhere. but he didnt rise. i threw so many flies at him i was running out of choices. a huge yellow mayfly flew in front of me and i caught it. i have no idea what kinda fly it was but it had yellow wings,body and eyes. it was about a size 10-12. well i had that cf design box with 400 drys and i had a few yellow drakes in that size. i tied it on and on the 2nd cast i got him! he was simpily a stunning holdover brown trout. i got pics of the fish and pics of that mayfly.
in all i caught about 18 trout. alot of little fresh stocked bows and a few wild ones. i remember people talking about why they dont have luck down there. here is my advice:
only use 6x tippet. it makes big fish hard to land...but any heavier and its hard to get them to strike
fish the edges before anything. alot of fish because they are angler wary sit along the edge in all of those stream restoration rocks for cover. they will see you and are hoping to see you!
dont just walk up to the edge of the stream. you do that you might as well go home. those fish a really smart! i compare them to letort spring trout.
fish the opposite side from where you park. unless this cast your shadow over the stream. the fish are so used to anglers fishing the oneside. hit them with something differnt.
except the fact the stream is touchy and picky. i dont fish it much because of this. somedays are too hot. some are too cold. no hatches for the most part and fish lookin for pellets. one good lititz run fish on the C&R area in a day is really good. i had and excellent day today. also TU has to feed the fish because of wilber fish kill polluting the stream twice. they restored it but the hatches havent come back like they should have. the stream will hold fish they just need food. i used to hate the fact they fed them but now i like it. poachers have trouble stealing them and they get huge and live long. i swear some of those guys are near 10 years old.
