Well after catching so many fish on a caddis pattern, I thought it best to maybe try for those big bruiser fish with a "meater" goddard caddis imitation.
I didnt go to sleep after work and headed right for the stream. The water was 63 degrees in the early morning. I did see a few fish rising to what seemed to be midges down by the Hess Farm. I had 3 fish in mind though and worked my way upstream to their holding lies just to see.......

This guy gave me an amazing fight. He leaped and jumped out of the water. It was by far the most painful trout I ever caught. I was stupid this day. I thought since someone recently mowed the meadow sections, I could get away with wearing shorts. I never wear shorts fishing cause of ticks, bugs and jaggers. Well I had bug off spray and thought......thatll do. Big, big mistake. This fish ran me up and down stream a few times. I had to follow him and keep my rod raised while trying to follow his movements. Keeping an eye on the water and not the path I was walking.......multiple times he ran me into burn hazel and thistles. OUCH. My legs are still red from all the hurtful vegatation. It was well worth it though! He took a goddard caddis on just two casts and ignored the emerger, as most fish did the day before.

I want to say this guy was smarter, or maybe just been caught multiple times. Instead of giving a fight he basically gave up. Swam up to the bank as if to say, "ok release me now!" He was by far the prettiest fish of the day. He took the emerger suprisingly. I tandemed my rig with a brown caddis emerger. Once my drift was over I would twitch the emerger up as if it was rising but struggling.
Brown3 I have been trying to catch for quiet sometime now. Maybe 7 years or more. Spectorfly caught this guy I think back in early May.

He is nearing his life expentancy. At least if you go by wild brown trout standards. This fish ignored the goddard caddis and emerger when drifted by naturally. He wanted pellets. I knew it and he knew it. So what I did was take off the emerger. I placed a small split shot up about 12 inches up from my goddard caddis. Those caddis imatations with all the deer hair kinda resemble a pellet. I placed the split shot up from the fly so it wouldnt sink it right away but it would still make that "plop" that a pellet does. (I just thought of this streamside) I casted it about a foot in front of him. He took it immediately. Rather than fight he just kinda used his weight to try and beat me. Didnt work I was able to muscle him into the bank. Took all but a minute. The fish looks thin in the picture, but trust me he isnt, he was really long also. How many inches do you think this fish is?

The upper section above the C&R area is worthwhile. I didnt fish it this day but I do recommend it. Donegal TU tried to get that section to be C&R also but couldnt. There is some stream restoration up there but not as much. Heres a few pics of the stream up there.

i did see some HUGE carp, so common to spring creeks, in this flat that were rising. Couldnt catch them though 😛
