Took the dog over to Lititz Run tonight with the hopes that the cooler weather would make the stream fishable. At 7:30 p.m. dipped the thermometer in the meadow section below the Hess farm and the water temp was 72 degrees. Needless to say, with the temps at that level, the rod stayed in the car and the dog and I went for a walk.
While walking upstream, I was encouraged to see a fair number of what I believe were BWO's about size 20, a lot of swarming midges, and sporadic rises from the trout. Observed one really nice brown, who ignored all of the olives floating by. I sat and watched him for about 15 minutes to see if he was eating, but I didn't observe him taking anything. When the water cools, I will be heading back to his lie with a slump buster or some other big, ugly streamer.
With the cooler temps over the next few days, Lititz Run should be productive, particularly if you fish further upstream closer to the source.
