Linn Run, Westmoreland county 5-10-22

Took my visiting dad for a hike. Fished for about an hour from the picnic area across from the (now capped) spring. Fished EHC and Little Black Stonefly Dry upstream into the cabins and caught a 5 or 6 inch Brookie missed a couple dinks. Fished back downstream with a small white bugger and caught a bigger 7 or 8 inch native and briefly hooked two large stockies. Still plenty of fish in Linn Run and the water had come down to pretty much normal levels. Only thing I saw bug-wise was some small (16-18) black caddis or sedge in sparse gatherings on the water and on trees. Nice day!

I've been to Linn Run many times over the years but never fished it. Just walked the trails. Always liked it there. Nice and secluded. Now that I'm fly fishing, I'm definitely going back to try it out. Figured my best bet is to park at the first larger parking area and just work my way up stream. Only downside I suppose is I currently only have one rod, which is a 9ft 5wt of course and I think that might be much for that water. But, I'll give it a shot!

That's usually what i use because it's the rod I stash in my vehicle. Sometimes the extra reach is nice in a small stream like that. 99% of the time I just skitter small elk hair caddis in the current. I park across from the spring. I like it for a quick hour or two.

The extra reach is a really good point, thank you. I never considered that. I was more concerned with bushwacking.
