My brother will likely tell you that the Letort and Big Spring are his nemesis streams. Well they are for a lot of people, but some of us love punishment. ;-) For him, it truly is, he has landed, I think, 1 fish in 4 years there. Today we will change this. I told him that the conditions are prime with in-coming Hurricane Irene and we should go. It has been awhile (1st day) since we fished together and he got a new rod. The funny thing is being prepared to fish these streams are very important. The mental toughness and concentration to succeed on these waters is at such a high level...anything can throw you off.
1) Eric forgot his license. We went to the Carlise Wal-Mart and got a reprint and the holder for 7 bucks.
2) Eric forgot his flies, tippet and leaders. Luckily I carry enough.
3) I threw my cell phone out of the car in a fit of anger on 283 in the early morning. Don't worry its been along time coming. I hate that thing. So no phone for now.
When we finally arrived at the lower half of the Letort @ 9:30am the air was humid and warm. The cloud cover was a very welcome sight with no end in sight. The water was in the 50's. I convinced Eric to throw a beetle/scud tandem. I just threw Beetles. There were sporadic risers but nothing amazing. We fished till 1 pm. It started to rain, so we headed back to the car. It quit before we got there. While at a gas station getting soda, we both decided if it stayed dry out, we would go to Big Spring.

My well fed brown. This thing had to have eaten some fish recently.
Eric ended up landing 4 fish all caught on scuds. He did miss a few takes on the Beetle. I caught 2 but both were very respectable sized fish. Throw Beetles to the edges and seams of riffles, along the very stream bank and under bridges. If you cant see your fly, listen. The takes are very loud.
I guess our lack of being mentally prepared was of no matter.
