I fished the Letort twice yesterday. I tried the stream around 8:30 am after running some errands for the wife in town. There were a couple of risers along the bank at the south end of the park. I was able to catch two browns on a #16 Foam Hotspot beetle and miss another. As I moved up through the park, the people traffic got pretty dense and the fish went into hiding. Still, not bad results for just thirty minutes of effort. In the evening, I fished the Letort in the vicinity of the turnpike. Again, terrestrials were key. Lots of trout were rising along the bank and in stations between the channels of weed. I did well with the fish along the bank, but had trouble with those between the weed channels. Trying to get a drag free drift without spooking the fish has always been a challenge here. Inevitably your fly line gets hung up on the weed and the fly blows right past the fish. A couple times last nite though, my cast was spot on and the fly got to the fish-yet when I went to strike, the line was again caught in the weeds. I wound up with six more browns from 5-11" and missed many more due to the frustrating conditions described above. Best flies last nite were #18 Red McMurray Ant and #14 Lightning Bug. As an aside, if you come out this way-bring your REPEL with 100% Deet. The mosquitos/black biting flies were vicious to go along with a brown tick in the scalp...
