So today I found myself done early with all my projects at home, my wife had taken the kids to a birthday party, and I was left wondering what to do. Well not really. I knew exactly what I was going to do - hit the Letort. Got to the stream around 1:30. The air temps were in the 40s, and there were a lot of midges coming off, along with some scattered BWOs. No rises in sight, however. Didn't see any evidence of spawning fish yet either. Decided to drift a scud for a while with little success. Switched over to a size 12 squirrel tail/pheasant tail/partridge/bead head nymph concoction, and the action began. Spent about two and a half hours in three different sections of the lower Letort. Landed a total of six or seven. Had some really nice fish come to hand, including a fine specimen that surprised me by actually taking my fly on the first drift by in open water. It is not often that I can fool one of those big guys that are out in the open, let alone get close enough to cast without spooking them. Took a small brown getting close to dark and decided to call it a day. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon in November (or any time of year!).

pretty fish. what a day !

that third one (2-2) looks like Loch Leven brown trout or a sea run - silver, no red spots and a small head 😉

Very nice fish! I chuckled at the name "little guy." That one seemed to be of about the same size as the biggest fish I caught all weekend 🙂

Beautiful fish. You've obviously unlocked her secrets. I'm assuming "lower sections" refer to anything below the war college? Personally, I like fishing those waters over the "heritage" section any day of the week. Just gotta wait for the streamside vegetation to die down a bit!

Yeah, that's what I consider the lower section - basically anything north/east of town. The surge of water from Sandy has really knocked over a lot of streamside grasses making for *slightly* easier travel. Some of the in-stream beds have started dieing back a bit too, which makes it a little easier to get a decent drift.

Those are some great fish... I swear you could have posted those pics and some could probably have identified them as Letort browns without being given the stream name. The fish in the Letort have an awesome look about them that makes them stand out from others.

Still a tricky trip, I'm sure. Even when the grasses are down, you still gotta watch your step... I enjoyed fishing that stretch several times last year in late winter/early spring because it was easier to navigate.

Klingy... Thanks... Just knowing the LeTort is alive and healthy makes my day and your experience is proof enough.. Waytago..
