Ahhh, had to get out on the water, closing on my first house today (will now literally be only a block from the stream!) and not sure how much free time I'll have in the short term, whole lotta pine floor to refinish, then the move, etc...

anyways, wanted to try a different approach to a fish I've been working, from the opposite bank this time. It was the wrong move, wrong time of day, bad lighting, no cover for the approach. Saw a wake moving upstream before I was anywhere near where I needed to be, lesson learned. But there is a nice long open meadow to fish upstream, so up I went.

Hit the stream around 7pm, a couple sporadic splashy risers, and noticed the occasional caddis fluttering about. So tied on a tan one and had pretty quick success w/ a few risers. Sun got lower, risers more frequent and saw a change in the bug activity, looked like sulphurs coming off. Very sparse, but trouts were feeding, so switch to a sulphur dry and had a blast fishing into the darkness, bringing a half dozen or so to hand. All were spunky 8-10" youngsters.

Then tied on a big stimulator for the walk downstream, fishing the water blind. Was letting the fly swing and stripping it now and then, ended up missing one and then landed another. Called it a night shortly past 9.

Was a fun night of relaxed fishing, compared at least to how I've been approaching it lately, good times.

Congrats on the first house, sounds like a great location.
