I was going to a concert at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg that evening. So, I decided to take a crack at the Letort on the way over.
I started at Vinces meadow in the Heritage Angling section around 1:30, on a rather warm, overcast day. I found a few BWO's hatching very sporadically. Saw only a couple of fish rise here and there, and caught 2 small oneson #20 BWO's
After spending almost 2 hours there, I decided to try another section of the stream below Carlisle. I found a rather deep pool below a sharp bend in the creek, that had quite a few fish rising to BWO's. Caught 6 there, but again, they were all on the small side. Nothing over 10"
I walked downstream of this spot a good 300 yards or more. But found no more fish rising anywhere in that stretch of creek, in spite of the BWO's that were still coming down. A little odd IMO.
But, I guess that's the way it is on the Letort

Even though they were small thats a good day on the Letort man!

I love the BWO hatches on that stream. The Winter is coming and last year i had a day on the Lower Letort ill not soon forget. I cant wait to do it again this year 🙂

Thanks for the report it got me day dreaming now :-D

man and im still day dreaming :-D thanks a lot 😛

Yeah - I agree.

You had what I'd certainly consider a great day. And (of course) on dries to boot! Nice report.

Fishidiot - at the one spot I fished, there were several nice weeping willow trees right along the stream. It reminded me of that beautiful painting that you used to have in your avatar.

Sal - Do those BWO's hatch on the Letort thru the winter?

I dunno about through the winter, but they very well might given the limestone spring nature of that stream. I will say however that on a warm winter day, they do. 🙂

If you read my report form the Letort back in Feb i think it was.....u would see pics of browns in the 10- 15 inch range. 🙂 Also i remember a brown of 20-25 inches rising in front of me. If only i had a BWO on me that day i woulda caught him. He just kept refusing that olive midge. Just wasent quite right for him ;-) smart bugger.

Do you need one bigger than 10 inches to be happy? I know plenty of women that day dream of such a thing
