Letort Spring, Cumberland County, June 27, 2026

Fished non-heritage area of Letort for about 2.5 hours today. Water temp was 65*, water had nice green limestone tint to it and was slightly up from recent showers. It was the type of day when I like to hit the Letort - overcast, cool and spitting rain. If its nice enough to play golf, do that instead of fishing the Letort.

Saw two muskrats, one heron and zero rising trout. I was dry fly or die, as nymphing this time of year in this spot just brings a salad in on every cast. Switched through various beetles, ants, etc., with no luck.

Sad but true - I simply don’t see many if any risers on our creek any more - photo is an oldie - #20 Griffiths Gnat caught this sipper - turned out to be a heron injured fish - taken just downstream of the porn shop before the bridge

Now you can't even fish below the dirty bookstore, it's posted all the way to the Falls. I used to like that stretch too.

65 seems warm for a pure limestoner like Letort, and it's likely warmer now in this heat wave - has it been trending warmer over time? Curious if anyone has past observations to compare to.

This is a typical temp in lower Letort in summer. That section is downstream of large channelized stretches that are impacted by urban run-off (as you probably know). Nevertheless, it holds up well.

Thanks, Dave. I've actually only fished it once, unsuccessfully. Always been more drawn to small mountain streams although I appreciate the uniqueness of the classic springs.
