Letort, Cumberland County, 3/20/2010

My brother Pat (fishpaint) and I took a trip to the Letort. We havn't been there in about ten years. Started fishing around at the RT 81 bridges at around 1PM. Did see a few black stoneflies come off, very sporatically. We did see five or six fish rise throughout the afternoon to them. I was able to stick one, using a #16 black caddis but the fight lasted all of about 1/2 a second. Thanks to my brothers quick finger with his camera you can see the whole fight in one picture. The fish hit just upstream of "THE MAILBOX". He had one chase a black and white shrimp pattern. They were the only two strikes. It was our first time out this year and we were in the right frame of mind to fish the Letort, we were just happy to get out and enjoy a warm spring day, not looking for numbers. The water temp was 53. GREAT DAY!!!

What time did you and your brother fish? Did you see any olives? Size 20-24 and size 12-14's? You guys try heavy streamers under the grass beds...have any followers? Nice pic btw!!! I love the rip of the line too 😉 l've found that bending my hook slightly out increases hook sets until they get into the grass 🙁 Any fish to rise on the letort is an honnor and many props to your rise!!! We fished from 1:00 till 6:00. Saw a few small olives, alot of midges and sporatic stoneflies which they seemed interested in. We ran nymphs, cressbugs along the weedbeds. We keep one rod rigged for the top one for bottom and switch back and forth if we see rises we are ready instantly.

I have found that the olives start coming off in good numbers around 10ish (before day light savings, 11 ish). That's when l've been able to target the rising fish on a 22 bwo dry. Other than that, l've been walking down stream away from the stream. Then l start working my way back up and l slowly flip a tungsten headed streamers under the cress and grass beds.
