Had an itch to scratch, so snuck out to the Letort to wet a line for the first time this year. Got to Bonnybrook around 10 or so and the fishin' was slow to start. Harassed one good sized brown that was out feeding on top of the weeds, he nonchalantly turned his cheek to the pheasant tail I showed him and went for deeper water on about the fourth cast, oh well.

Around lunchtime some olives starting popping off and the risers came out to play. After shaking off the rust with a missed take, got my first fish of the year, a little 7" fella to open the account of oh'12. Then brought another little guy to hand, missed another and presented to a tell tale dimple out in midstream. That produced a fish with some weight and netted this nice 12"er. That pretty much made my day.

Then the overcast, low 40 degree skies let loose with a peaceful quiet snowfall for a bit. Fish kept rising and I moved a few paces up the meadow. Saw another subtle dimple out in midstream and tossed the #20 parachute out that aways. Must've done something right, got a take on the first drift and was surprisingly into a pretty decent fish. This brown is just about the biggest I've taken on a dry from these waters, a nice broad shouldered 15-16"er, sweet. Decided to call it day on that high note, sure hope the rest of the year goes as well as today did.

Good report tomi, nice pics too. Love the colors on the first one.

I'm not sure what's nicer... the fish, or the rod.

Congrats on a nice day on the water.

What a great report!
I hit Letort with Squaretail and Atlantisboy on Friday afternoon but we did poorly. You timed it much better weather wise. Letort fish really like those rainy or snowy days.

Great pics too.

This report was sweet! It leaves me hope for tomorrow 🙂
Nice pics and that is a sweet rod.

Great work! Your report backs up my belief that when there is topwater activity, the chance of hooking up is much greater. Streams like the LeTort, FSB, and others are just so hard when there's no topwater game. Gotta be the right conditions, etc.

Nice fish!

Great fish and report, there is certainly something special about catching Letort trout on top in the winter. Thanks for the post, and keep em coming.

Great report and pics Tomi. I think the itch has finally gotten to me and I'm going to put aside some time Tuesday afternoon and make the one minute drive to Bonnybrook from work. Wonder if it will be cloudless and bright when I get there? My guess is probably, but I'll fish anyhow. 🙂

Wild browns and bamboo!
What a combo!

Thanks all, was nice to hit it right...a definite benefit of living right next door.
