I took a run up to the Carlisle Army War College, and after a minor ten minute inconvenience(asked for ID, searched my truck, looked through my flies 🙂), I was parking and heading down to a part of the stream rarely fished. I started just inside the fence off of Post Rd. and worked my way up to the first footbridge. Stuck with one fly-BH yellow eztaz bugger. I moved alot of fish and caught two that were about 10". I spooked a few that were in the 18" range and colored beautifully-deep copper tones. I was standing up on a high stone wall next to one of the buildings and cast the fly out. I had a brown at least 22" inhale the fly. I hooked him but he did a couple of body rolls on the surface and took off with a burst and headed for some debris in the middle of the stream. Suffice to say, I lost my fly and my tippet and could only stand there laughing while the fish left a carp-like wake. From here I walked down to the bowling alley and worked my way back up. This water is a branch to the Letort on base and holds quite a few fish in its own right. The water is shallow with some deep holes and the trout like to hide under the wall. Get something close to the wall and you will see very large "black" browns come out from underneath. I spooked several that were 18"+, had a few of them follow the fly and nudge it or bite the tail. I did manage one down here that was 16" that was almost pitch black on top and then deep copper down his sides and belly-easily one of the most beautiful browns I have caught. I know based on the coloration, that this fish does not come out much. I know that my screen name is DWB, but the Letort is quickly becoming my second home...
