Letort/Big Spring Cumberland County 11/30/2008

On Sunday, I visited both Big Spring and the Letort for several hours. Both streams have very little water and are crystal clear. At Big Spring, I fished below the Ditch and managed several rainbows and a brown on a BH Black Bugger fished tight to the undercuts. I caught one gorgeous rainbow (photo below). The fish was 12-13" with outstanding coloration. I left shortly thereafter to fish the Letort. I spotted several risers, but couldn't get them to take. I got the hairy eyeball a few times and that was it. I moved to a different part of the stream where the water is deeper and with lots of cover. Here, I switched back to the BH Bugger and had alot of success. I managed to hook a submarine who was lying under a logjam before he parted my 5x tippet...Fish was north of 6-7lbs...I did bring four nice browns to hand (photos below). All of them were caught fishing tight to the bank. While difficult, this stream is really a gem. If you take the time to explore other areas of the strewam away from the Heritage Area-with patience, you will be pleasantly surprised.
