With my new work schedule, weekends off have been the norm, and I have been taking advantage of the time to get in some early spring fly fishing.
Of course, the Letort usually has a decent hatch of BWOs throughout March, and the past few weekends ive been lucky enough to be greeted by some rising fish although few and far in-between, provided some decent dry fishing in the afternoons. However, today was a "chuck and duck" day tossing medium sized marabous on a long leader which got me into some steady action covering most of the C&R section. What's nice about this time of year is many places are quite open to navigate with minimal weeds and shrubbery to get caught up in. The effectiveness of marabou streamers, wooly buggers (and variations)to be specific, have always surprised me fishing these spring creeks, I personally have yet to fish a streamer to its equal and today was no different bringing 3 good fish to the net and missing a few others.
Water Temp:52-53 - Clear
Weather:45F mostly sunny
Hatches: BWO sz18-20, also witnessed 2 sulfur duns floating by
and plenty of midge activity.
On a side note, I stopped at the PAFFM to hopefully check out some of items that were to be for sell this weekend, but the event was only Saturday, however a talk with Bill Skilton informed me that next event will be held 3 days straight Fri-Sun next year.
