Lehigh River (Rockport Access, Carbon County) 5/4/18

Water temp already 66 from the reservoir, no fishing this weekend for whitewater release (why i'm not sure because it seems like about a perfect whitewater release right now).

Is it over already, i only made it out up there twice 🙁
 
It ain't over yet Timmy...bring a thermometer with you when you go. The gorge areas stay cooler due to the high cliff walls and multiple cold water tribs. Just make sure you take the temperature before you fish.
 
Been fishing the Lehigh Valley streams and Poconos a bit since the dam releases haven't been fishing friendly. Did float the Lehigh on Memorial Day, mostly streamers and some nymphing, missed a couple big browns and caught some rainbow stockies.
 
If the next round of storms don't accumulate much rain, I predict the LR below FEW will be around 500 cfs mid week. If true, sulfurs will be popping in the evening!
 
I was saying that about this time last week about this past weekend, boy did that change after that rain last week
 
Anyway we can petition for a make up fishing release this weekend? Pretty sure we lost 3 fishing release days this spring....
 
Depending on how much rain there is today, it may be fishable this weekend as they are matching outflow with inflow. It was perfect earlier this week, unfortunately, I couldn't get off from work to fish it.

Keep an eye on the Stoddartsville gauge for the Lehigh and also the Tobyhanna - if those get blown out (which is seems like they will after today) then the flows will be too high to fish.
 
And just as she rounded into shape the rains came again! Might be in good shape by the weekend again, but oh yeah, whitewater time again, yay.
 
Timmy - flows should be absolutely perfect this weekend and fishing should be great. It is just about to hit the temperature threshold as well - so go get 'em while you can. I'm trying to be in the gorge both tomorrow and Sunday.

Got in the water at 7pm and fished til 915. Fished flat section below long riffle between White Haven and Hayes Creek. Water felt warm (high 60's?). I wet waded and was comfortable but I could have fished waders since the sun was over the ridge by 7.

Trout were rising at 7pm already. Looked like March Browns in the beginning. Sulphurs came out around 8.

Caught several trout..Missed 3 times as many. Some wild browns included. Fished size 16 sulphur the whole time.

Ahhhh..400 cfs!

Good night out there last night. I was a little north of where you were but saw much the same. The hatches were not heavy at all and i dont think there were a ton of fish right where i was but there was definitely some willing participants. Brought 3 nice fish to hand 15 in rainbow, 14 inch stocker brown that may have been a hold over and a real nice 12 inch wild brown.

I think those were slate drakes (isos) earlier in the evening and then i saw the same sulfurs about a size 16 started to come off pretty late, around 8. Caught 2 pretty quickly on an emerger pattern shortly after 8.

That was so much fun i might go back tonight because it isnt going to last much longer temp wise. It was 66 when i started fishing at 5 last night. I stopped in Lehighton on the way up it was 72 down there
 
Anyone have any insight on water temps around the lehighton/ Palmerton area? I would imagine temps are getting on the warm side. I am going to be in Lehighton for the weekend, would like to try the main river if at all possible at daylight on Saturday, if its too warm I have a few tribs lined up.
 
I stopped in Lehighton on Saturday and took a temp of 72, that was probably 3 or 4pm. I kept moving north to another area and found 66 degrees where i fished
