Lehigh River Northampton Ct. 5-16-2010

Lehigh has been on fire the last few days. Flows have been good and so have the bugs. Temps are perfect, everything is a go right now. Nice hatches of March browns Sulphurs and Light cahills in the evening, and tan caddis pretty much all day with spent caddis taking fish. Caught 5 trout and 5 smallmouth tonight all on a cdc march brown. I lost one fumbling for the camera that was 18-20 no problem. Anyone that whats to fish sometime this week let me know!

Yeah, the lehigh was nice today. No pressure and the fish were cooperative. Caught a big fat brown on top and several smaller ones on nymphs .Temperature was already 65 at 8 o'clock this evening.

Nice report! The river seems to have a lot of fish in it throughout - from the dam all the way down to Northampton Co.

I fished it on Saturday - Whitewater Release Day - and the fishing was not too bad. This was in the Lehighton to Bowmanstown area. However, there was lots of junk/algae/crud in the water from I think the upstream rafting chaos. Fish did not mind too much. Not many risers though.

blueheron...where did you find that 65F temp. That does seem warm!

I registered 65F around Treichlers and 68F at the park in Northampton.

Put in at Bowmanstown yesterday. Caught some nice 12-14inch bows, but no fin-clips. A friend pulled out a nice 16 inch brown on a streamer and another buddy caught a brookie. We also lost what appeared to be two big trout. Saw a few minos cruising around in the flat stretches. Very few risers, but that was probably due to an 8 to 4 float in the sun. Pulled in a few bass as well, especially in the slower pools where water temps felt like they were in the upper 60s.

Is the Lehigh up that way wadable by someone who's kind of an idiot and an absolute clutz?

I'd like to check it out, but haven't really given it might thought. The Lehigh at all its points seems very daunting to me.

The idiot part won't deter you from wading nearly as much as the klutz part and it may actually help. Use a stick, walk slowly and never wade downstream unless you want to cool off

Temp was 58 today at glen onoko around 2 or 3 o clock... lots of black caddis and a smaller mayfly... water seemed a little high to me, not sure what the cfs were..

58 in near the mouth two days after a release is one thing how bout as boys down south. I caught 3 trout last night and none of them did much in the way of fighting, I think the water may be a bit to warm. Dear God please send rain aspa about 2inches if you can. Thanks

Link to water temp. I don't think the water is too warm. I mean look at the chart...the temp at the mouth of Lehigh has barely touched 63F recently.

I had 58 at Glen Onoko when I was up a week or so ago...
