Lehigh River (Carbon County, Tannery/Black Creek area) 3/10/18, 3/11/18

Yes, if a water is open to year around fishing it makes some sense to stock it early. Also, if a water represents a two or three truck stocking, it is harder to reschedule such waters to a later stocking date, so only having one stocking point being inaccessible on the date of stocking is a minor problem that will not cause a stocking date to be rescheduled in my experience.

A general point that I would also make is that delaying a two or three truck stocking on a single water to a late date could result in many other smaller waters in multiple counties that should receive late date stockings for much more pressing reasons than no access at one stocking point being stocked earlier than desired.

D/S Temperature:36.5F
U/S Temperature: 36.0F

Do any of you guys have a target temp. that you look for ?

Might take a ride up tomorrow and give it a shot, says a fishing release weekend. Anyone else planning to get out tomorrow?

Water temps of 40 or better provide better fishing. 36 is cold. Fish will no doubt be sluggish. I find riffle and runs hard to present fly slow enough. Pools are better options. Also fish in afternoon on the sunny side of river, typically the east but it depends on where you are at (bends/curves) etc.

I will head up late morning, have to get out the wife and kids are busy all day. First official free day in 4 months. Even if the fish don't bite I will enjoy my cigar.

Thanks TigerEye, I've waded the Lehigh around Tannery in late November. The water was COLD, 3 hours wading and I literally couldn't take it anymore.

SNJChef, please update us with a report if you get the chance, TY

Got out first thing in the morning water temps 36 fished deep pools, managed 2 fish in 90 minutes. Got some breakfast and a nap, headed back out 12:30 water temps 38.5 in some areas. fished big stones the rest of the day. Managed 4 fish, rolled a few more. Lost a real nice fish right before I left.

I mainly fish dries, so if I got 4 nymphing there must be a lot of fish there!

Will be heading up Tuesday looks like I have a light work schedule that day possibly Thursday.

Good Luck

Fished White Haven and worked my way down.

Was going to head up tomorrow but forecast has 40% chance of rain so I am fishing KLG or maybe stay local and hit Valley Creek only 10% chance of rain.

Thanks for the report SNJChef, you did pretty well in those cold water temps. I'm mainly a dry fly fisherman too, don't worry the Mayflies are coming ~
