Lehigh River (Carbon County, Tannery/Black Creek area) 3/10/18, 3/11/18

I'm a little late to the party here but winter fishing the river is brutally tuff work. Other than the elements, rough wading, and cold water it's a snap. :>}.
Honestly though when river temps are below 40 the fish go into stupor and are insanely difficult. I have found that if your heart is in it to overlook all riffles and runs (safer too) and focus on deeper pools along banks. Hang a zonker wooly buggers or other minnow imitation with lots of movement direct down stream and fish dead dead dead slow.
 
Yup, the Lehigh fishes tough in that area early season, sometimes right up until May. I usually save it until air and water temps come up. The bait guys do good there early season though.

We should meet up some time. I live in Chalfont now but i am Glenside born and raised and work in Abington so i am down there every day still. I too am heavily interested in the Lehigh and Delaware.

Cowboy, i think you know Andy (krayfish2) right? He mentioned that he knew you and we were close to one another when i met him last year up on the upper D.
 
Will be up tomorrow morning in White Haven, Will be hitting it for sure, probably fish until 2:00 pm so I can be home by 5:00
 
I believe that area was stocked yesterday. Should have a good time. Think like a worm fisherman and you should be into fish.
 
Doubt it will be crowded, but you will be dealing with 36 degree water temp early on

The newly stocked brookies won't mind, though.

Wonder how many places they were able to get the truck in to stock. I would imagine the tailwaters were a no go, at the very least.
 
Stopped at Evening Hatch on Friday for tying materials. Guys there said the PAFBC stocking truck didn't show up.

This info was given by a few guys who were going to help stock. They told the shop and the shop told me. FWIW.
 
Any luck guys? I was out in central PA fishing the C&R section of Penns and the weather and conditions were perfect, hooked a bunch of browns. Hoping the Lehigh is starting to get better and warm up.
 
Had a great day perfect weather after this past winter. I got into a half dozen fish, covered a lot of water. Not sure if they stocked or not, but I will take 6 fish any day on this stream. Does anyone know if it was stocked or not? If not when? I would like to help stock. I am planning a trip to the cabin Friday night, and fish Saturday.
 
Contacts tell me the truck did not make it down Rd to tailwaters near guage station. Most other places got their allotment . WH and Tannery areas were stocked. If the report from Evening Hatch is correct, those guys are reporting from the guage.
 
Um, since they always have trouble getting down that road, why don't they wait until, say, April 10th to try it? After all, opening day isn't til mid April every year.

But the river is open year around - - so why not get the fish in the river as early as possible? Was the truck not being able to get down the road due to snow?
 
Tiger...Report from Evening Hatch was that the guys were waiting at the dam for the stock truck but it didn't show up. Seems they stocked everywhere BUT at the dam.
 
Yes I heard that the dam was not stocked. Usually two trucks for the river. Truck 1 gets the dam and river downstream to ~WH usually to 940 bridge. Truck 2 gets 80 bridge/raft launch area to Sandy run.

I heard that the truck did get down to dam outfall. Those guys must have missed it.

Selfishly, I'm happy those other fish went into the river vs the dam.
