Lehigh River, Carbon County, 10/18/2012

Checked the flow out of the dam, running @ 200, just right for the section I have been targeting lately. I knew I could carefully wade out to where the drift would get me into a slot that I had found that held some nice fish. Water temp down to the low 50's, overcast skies and outstanding scenery made for a memorable day on the water, oh and the fish weren't too shabby. A fall rainbow has nothing to apologize for in the beauty department.

Nice! Those are some good fish, and I am sure gave up a good fight. Is that up in the gorge?

Yeah, I can't make my truck go anywhere else. The scenery and fishing are too much for words and just what I want out of a river. The wading is treacherous and the fish will ignore your offerings more times than not. I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe cold water releases in the summer of course.

Yea I have yet to explore the gorge. One of these days I will.

Nice going Blue Heron. You know the bows downstream from there don't seem to make it thru the summer, since you don't catch many in the fall. They are definitely outnumbered by the browns. But those are some nice ones! Maybe they move up into the faster water up in the Gorge. Those definitely don't look any worse for wear after this summers heat. How did they fight?

I was all geared up to hit it today, but Mother Nature and her 2.5-3" of rain changed all that. Oh well, maybe next weekend since it looks warm all week.

I was definately in my happy place after that trip. It's a blast when opportunity meets preparation and you clue into it. There are many underground seeps feeding that river that the fish find and use to survive the army corps best attempts to snuff them. There were very few bugs visible in the water, that's ok I was throwing streamers and large stones that are available to them year round. It was not the first time that I hooked into that giant rainbow, he took all my line and half my backing before I could stumble in to shore and he LDR'ed me earlier this year. I assumed he was a brown and was shocked when I landed all 22 + inches of him. He jumped three times and pulled like a freight train but it was my day this time and I thanked him as I revived him and watched as he swam away. The length of my arm from the crook of my elbow to the tips of my fingers is 18 inches and he was way longer than that The funniest catch in the same area was twin 12" northern tarpon, a double chubble.
