Fished Lehigh below Rockport 6:00 till dark. Flow at White Haven 300 CFS.
Felt a bit nostalgic tonight so decide to take my uncle's old cane rod for a round of dry fly work. Walked downstream of Rockport watching for risers as I walked. Not alot of fish or bug activity until I got below a cold water trib. Temp on my side of river was 62F. Saw a bunch of stonefly shucks on the rocks, and some very small undetermined mayfly about a 20 or 22. Given the overcast day I assume BWO but that is no more than a "SWAG".
I started to prospect with a #12 yellow stimulator. Fishing to likely seams, foam lines, and around protruding boulders. 1 brown about 12" for my effort. Again risers were far and few between and those were on opposite side of river. I switched flies to a #14 Royal Wulff to see if that would wake them up.
About 8:15 till dark the river came alive and risers were in every likely spot. Not sure what natural they were taking, those small BWO spinners perhaps as I could see no flies in the air. Lucky for me they didnt mind taking the Wulff. Finished the evening around 9:15 when it was too dark to see. Uncle Joe's rod was good to me again, landing 8 more fish in the last hour including this one who came home to have dinner with me tomorrow.
It was a sweaty steamy 40 minute walk back in the dark.
