It really was a "Good Friday". I met FlyFisherJ and SkyBay about 7 AM. It was chilly in the morning with air temps in the 40s, but we reached 80 by late in the day. I didn't have a stream thermometer. SkyBay took a little swim and declared the water "refreshing", though I doubt his video camera shared the sentiment. There are still patches of snow on the shady side of Laurel Mountain, but melting snow did not have a big influence on the stream temp.

It took us a while to figure out the fish were taking stonefly nymphs in a size 14-16. We all caught fish after figuring this out. I did well with a wire body prince nymph. There were sporadic periods of adult stoneflies on the surface, but mostly no rising trout. I did find a pair of rising fish in my secret hole on the way out. I ended the day taking a brown and a rainbow on top on successive casts about 3:30 PM. Both fish took a size 14 early black stone dry.

Beautiful day to be outside. I enjoyed the company of my fellow board members.
