Laurel Hill Creek, Somerset County, 05/07/2011

Fished the section of Laurel Hill Creek off May Rd. about 2.5 miles below Whipkey Dam. Air temp about 50 degrees at 9:30am when started. Was sunny and a little warmer by the time I got off the stream around 2pm. Water level was good. Made wading much easier and safer than the last couple for weekends.

In all picked up about a dozen nice sized rainbows. Picked up three on a size 12 black copper john, the rest on various sized beadhead pheasant tails.

Did see a few light hendricksons coming off here and there but no fish raising to them.

Also, saw a nice size golden trout feeding in a deep hole. Drifted a number of nymphs by him but nothing interested him. Pulled four or five rainbows from that hole but couldn't get him to join the fun!

I went up to the Park yesterday. Ended up running into Mike. #15 tan caddis were prevalent, but not thick, plenty of midges, a few smaller caddis and some BWO/Blue Quill mixed in. No spontaneous risers were observed until evening and very sporadic at that.

There were some small rusties around the riffle as well as an extremely dark spinner at least #14. I was thinking quill gordon, but maybe a dark hendrickson spinner?

Water was actually fairly low with good visibility.
